Former Argentine Judge Accused Again of Misconduct

Buenos Aires, December 2 (NA) – Former judge Julieta Makintach has been denounced again. The case now has a prosecutor and a judge, so the investigation is moving forward. This time, the accusation was made by criminal lawyer Hugo López Carribero for a trial held in mid-2024, where the former magistrate allegedly used her cell phone during hearings. According to the document sent to the Argentine News Agency, the complaint was filed within the framework of a trial, prior to the one concerning the death of Diego Armando Maradona, in which Makintach was a judge of the Criminal Court No. 2 of the Judicial Department of San Isidro. In June 2024, the oral trial against Alejandro Daniel Krywdik began, as specified in the complaint. During the course of the trial, the magistrate, who has since been dismissed, used her cell phone in a “clear context of failure to fulfill—and poor performance of—the jurisdictional function that she was legally and constitutionally obligated to exercise.” “During the testimony of the individuals who were presented as defense witnesses, Makintach had inappropriate attitudes, of manifest partiality, of an irregular nature, and of a lack of respect towards the witnesses,” the document describes. During much of the witnesses' testimony, the former judge “ignored their statements, while paying no attention whatsoever to the declarations made by the citizens in the courtroom, taking into account that she had in her hands—during almost the entirety of these acts—her cell phone—we do not know if official or personal.” Despite the former magistrate's lack of attention, Krywdik was convicted of sexual abuse and is currently being held at Unit No. 2 of the Sierra Chica Penitentiary. The case is with the Court of Appeals awaiting his release. In this context, the current family lawyer, Carribero, confirmed in a conversation with NA that he has denounced Makintach to the Justice for the crimes of malfeasance and abuse of authority. This case (No. 14-09-2240-25) already has a prosecutor, Karina Bianchi, and it was also decided that it will be handled by Judge Orlando Díaz of the Guarantees Court No. 2. In mid-November, the jury in the impeachment trial unanimously dismissed Makintach following the scandal over her role in the documentary about the trial for Maradona's death.
